Update: 12/3/2007 — added a warning note regarding one of the PDFs linked to below.
The law professors and others who circulated a request to Congress to postpone via legislative means the now-effective amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure are undoubtedly holding their breath — at least figuratively — but solos have no time for that. If you practice in any federal court, you need to be familiar with these rules and the broad changes the amendments wrought now. Solosez featured a post today that offered the following resources to help you sort it all out.
- The original proposal (the post indicates the rules begin at about page 25) (NB: PDF)
- Later-date chart and comparison chart (both PDFs as well — NB: Please note, the first one is massive and may take a while to load)
- Links from the US federal courts page about the changes
In addition, you might consider taking a look at these sites as well:
- Professor Edward Hartnett’s article, Against (Mere) Restyling (available from SSRN)
- Thompson-West Law Librarian resources (the top entry as of this date features a video)
- Professor Jeffrey Parker’s article, Postponing the 2007 Restyling Changes to the FRCP (SSRN)
- Michael Dorf article for Findlaw “Meet the New Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.”
