We’ve talked here and at Blawg In A Box about flagship content or pillar articles — those pieces of content on your blog that provide extraordinary value and compel visitors to visit your site for the purpose of accessing the helpful content, pieces you’d want to highlight on your sidebar or otherwise as being of particular worth.
Lawyers often feel put off by the concept of creating pillar articles. It seems like it would take a lot of time and effort. Perhaps this is because many lawyers just naturally think of law review articles when I say “pillar articles” — and those do, indeed, take a lot of time and effort.
But here’s a great example of a pillar piece that, while it might have taken some time to compile, is definitely not as effort-intensive as a scholarly article: 101 Essential Freelancing Resources.
I am going to write more about this concept, and this example in particular, on Blawg In A Box later today but wanted to share the link with my TIS readers now, because although the site (Freelance Switch) and the list both seem aimed more at web professionals (designers, programmers, etc.) it seems to me that there could be much of value here for solo lawyers looking for alternatives to those pricey out-of-the-box applications and solutions the big firms turn to for invoicing, timekeeping, project management, etc.
